About this experience
Surely you've seen those pictures - a tiny mountain village with stone houses adorned with pink and red flowers... I invite you to step into such postcards! The atmospheric village of Lefkara will enchant you with the craftsmanship of lace makers and jewelers, while the authentic Fikardou will transport you back to the Middle Ages. In the beautiful valley, you will visit the monastery of St. Minas, and on the slopes of Kionia Hill, the Monastery of Machairas, where I will tell you about the miraculous icon painted by the Evangelist Luke. And you will also make a stop at a museum of wax figures and a Cypriot olive oil shop.
We will tour the entire island, enjoy the views and stories of Cyprus, taste the national cuisine in a traditional mountain tavern, discuss the peculiarities of local life, and much more! We will visit:
- Monastery of St. Minas - a warrior-Christian from Egypt,
- The craftsmen's village of Lefkara,
- Stavropegic Monastery of Machairas,
- The tiny village of Fikardou,
- Wax Figures Museum,
- Olive Oil Shop.
The women's monastery of St. Minas (15th century) - a warrior and healer - is located in a picturesque mountain valley near the village of Vavla. Once there was a spring on the monastery grounds, the water of which healed many diseases. Today, 17 nuns live in the monastery, and I will tell you what they do there and about the monastery's history.
Then we will find ourselves in the beautiful village of Lefkara. It is known for its artisans: the lacework of Lefkara's inhabitants is protected by UNESCO, and the silver craftsmen of this village create exact replicas of jewelry borrowed from Cypriot museums. We will also see the Monastery of Machairas, where the miraculous icon of the Most Holy Theotokos is located. This icon, where “Theotokos alone, without the Infant, as if in prayer, with outstretched hands,” was painted by the apostle Luke.
We will also visit Fikardou - a museum-village in the open air. Today, only 6 people live in this village! Narrow streets wind between houses made of raw brick, a tiny church, an old cemetery... It's a true Middle Ages experience!
In conclusion, you will have many impressions. And ahead lies the road back home with enchanting views.
