About this experience
We will embark on a leisurely journey to the southernmost point of Attica. Along the way, we will stop at a picturesque pond surrounded by cliffs - the water in the thermal lake has a unique composition. Arriving at the Cape, you will explore the ruins of an ancient temple on a hill and learn why the Athenians revered Poseidon as much as Athena.
What to expect
- The road to the south of the Attica peninsula runs along the picturesque coast of the Saronic Gulf of the Aegean Sea. Along the way, we will stop at the mineral lake Vouliagmeni.
- At Cape Sounion, you will see one of the most famous temples of Ancient Greece - the Temple of Poseidon dating back to the 5th century BC. The cape is famous for its enchanting sunsets.
- After visiting the archaeological complex on the way back, we can stop at one of the fishing taverns for lunch or dinner.
During the journey, I will tell you about the history of ancient Greek polis. You will learn why Poseidon was equally important to the Athenians as Athena herself, and understand the role of the fleet in the history of the development of the ancient state. You will also find out the significance of the southern Attica peninsula for the economic prosperity of Ancient Athens.
