About this experience
This adventure will take you almost to Northern Ireland and make you forever fall in love with the emerald panoramas of the island. You will visit Ardgillan Castle with a curious history and preserved interiors, encounter the mysteries of nature and be captivated by the landscapes of the Howth Peninsula. The final point of the route will be the truly Irish town of Carlingford, which you will love for its picturesque surroundings, peaceful atmosphere, and rural charm.
What to expect
Majestic Ardgillan Castle
You will visit the classic 18th-century Ardgillan Castle on top of a mountain, offering stunning views of the sea and coastline. You will learn about the history of the castle, originally located in a mighty forest, as evidenced by the name 'Ardgillan' (translated from Irish as 'high forest'). You will discover how this picturesque place evolved from the estate of a Dublin wine merchant to the residence of the Taylor family, examine the castle's architecture, beautifully preserved interiors, and well-kept garden.
Irish charm in Carlingford
The atmospheric Carlingford will charm you with its incredible views of the surroundings and the bay. It's worth visiting Ireland for such landscapes! We will explore the ruins of King John's medieval castle, founded by the Normans, and then immerse ourselves in the everyday life of Carlingford. Here, annual 'Oyster Festivals', sports competitions, and an interesting event related to the annual 'Heritage Week' are held, where seven volunteer families live for a week as their ancestors did 800 years ago. You will learn about the famous residents of the town, including Thomas D'Arcy McGee, one of the Fathers of Canadian Confederation. Enjoy postcard-perfect Irish panoramas, the rural charm of Carlingford, and delicious local ice cream!
Majestic Howth Peninsula
The isthmus connecting Howth to the mainland is narrow, and the peninsula extends far into the sea, towering over the entire coast. You will admire its rugged coastline with small coves, caves, and beaches. You will walk along a tourist trail along the edge of the rocky coast, allowing you to see the sea, cliffs, Dublin Bay, and the island 'Ireland's Eye' in all its glory.
Between the eastern and western piers of Howth, you will see a small but colorful harbor with a yacht basin and a dock for small fishing boats. Besides the sea beauty, you will glimpse the ancient Howth Castle. And I will tell you how Howth earned the honor of being called a prestigious area and about famous local residents - from Eurovision winner Johnny Logan to writer-esoteric Lobsang Rampa.
