About this experience
Between Rome and Naples lies a coast of exquisite beauty, known since ancient times. We will visit the places where, according to legend, Odysseus lived. I will tell you captivating myths, show picturesque views, and introduce you to local cuisine. We will swim at the pristine sandy beaches and taste the best fish soup of your life. Upon your request, we can stay in these lands for a day or two.
What to Expect
Terracina
Let's start our journey in the heart of the Odysseus coast. Terracina has preserved numerous ancient ruins - imperial villas, a forum, the grand temple complex of Jupiter Anxur, and the ancient Appian Way. While you leisurely explore this amazing place, I will tell you local legends and myths.
Sperlonga
This town with its typical Mediterranean charm is easily recognizable by the whitewashed facades of houses. There are many historical monuments here: churches of Santa Maria and San Rocco and ancient watchtowers. We will stroll through narrow streets and cozy squares, admire the views of the coast, and descend to the beach for a refreshing swim. Remember, we are in no hurry.
Tiberius Grotto
Next, we will head to the surroundings of Sperlonga, where an impressive archaeological find is preserved. We will visit the grotto, the ruins of Tiberius' villa, and the archaeological museum, which houses sculptures from the ancient cave. According to legend, it was in Sperlonga that Odysseus landed on the shore, so the statues depict heroic scenes from Homer's epic.
Gaeta
This port city has a rich history and luxurious beaches. According to one legend, it was named after the wet nurse of a Trojan hero, whom he allegedly buried on the coast. We will walk through the ancient Gaeta, and I will tell you many more myths and legends. We will also visit the port, where an excellent fish lunch awaits you.
