About this experience
This is a car tour without which it is practically impossible to form a somewhat objective idea of such an incredible city as Istanbul. We will travel about 230 km, but you will not notice the distances at all, as your attention will be captured by the history, secrets, atmosphere and beauty of the City with a capital letter.
What to expect
- The tour will start at the Edikule Castle with its golden gates and stunning history. We will drive along the old walls of Feodosia with stops at two active churches - the Church of the Most Holy Theotokos of Balıklı and the Vlakhernskaya, which were considered the main protectors of Constantinople. Optionally, these can be replaced with the Church of Desires on Tuesdays and Thursdays, St. George's Church at the Patriarchate, or the Suleymaniye Mosque.
- We will explore the mysterious peninsula, once closed by impregnable walls, known to Russians as Tsargrad. We will admire the beauties of the Golden Horn and the Bosphorus. Our ancestors claimed that in terms of beauty, this place can be compared to the entrance to paradise.
- In the Ulus area, you will find an observation deck in the park with a magnificent view of the Bosphorus and the Asian coast, where you can treat yourself to a cup of tea or coffee with a touch of the sea breeze.
- We will definitely descend to the coast and drive along the Bosphorus to admire the beautiful, very different spots filled with poetry and history. An essential part of the tour will be the Rumeli Hisarı - a fortress built by Sultan Mehmed II for the conquest of Constantinople.
- We will cross to Asia via the Bosphorus Bridge named after the same conqueror of the city, who received the nickname Fātiḥ (Conqueror) on the day of the city's capture. The first site on the opposite shore will be the fortress built by his grandfather Bayezid the Thunderbolt, Anadoluhisarı.
- We will visit one of the imperial hunting lodges - Küçüksu Pavilion. At the end of the wonderful day, we will climb the Büyükçamlıca hill, located at an altitude of 262 meters above sea level.
Organizational details
We will return to Europe by ferry, so besides museum tickets (around 20 liras), it is advisable to budget for several stops, ferry transfer, and lunch somewhere on the Bosphorus coast - approximately 45-50 liras, not including lunch.
