About this experience
There are more than 100 islands in the Venetian Lagoon. We will visit the most popular ones: Murano, Burano, and Torcello. You will stroll along the canals, observe the Murano glass masters at work, learn about Hemingway's time in Torcello, see Attila's Throne, and take photos with the colorful houses of Burano in the background.
What to expect
The essence of the Venetian Lagoon
On the way to the islands, you will learn important historical facts about Venice and understand why the word 'lagoon' originated here. I will talk about the islands surrounding the Italian city, explain which ones are inhabited and which are uninhabited. You will visit Murano, known for its 'Venetian glass', Burano with its famous delicate lace, and finish the journey at Torcello, the first 'island of salvation' for those fleeing the barbarians.
Islands: user manual
The island tour will proceed at your pace: we will not rush, see all the highlights, and take photos with the colorful houses in the background. You will observe how the master lace makers of Burano and the glassblowers create their masterpieces, walk in the footsteps of Hemingway, who loved to visit Torcello, see 'Attila's Throne', and enjoy the unique architecture of the Venice 'suburb'. Optionally, you can have lunch at a family-run fish restaurant serving the freshest seafood and fish.
