About this experience
During the three and a half hour walk through the old city, you will meet kings and coachmen, corsairs and nuns, inquisitors, witches, artists, and even Santa Claus :). You will learn how many interesting things good people can come up with in the happiest city on Earth. You will see iconic neighborhoods and hidden courtyards with bats, visit a designer hub, and have coffee in an ancient cathedral. Along the way, we will tell you what events shaped the history of the Netherlands and what it's like to be a Dutch person today.
What to Expect
An Adventure Spanning Eight Centuries
On the tour of the historic part, you will see the oldest surviving non-religious building in Amsterdam - the Weigh House; the Beurs van Berlage - the first example of the rationalist architectural style; as well as the residence of the East India Company, the Red Light District, and the Chinese Quarter. We will also reveal to you the secret cathedral, the 'soul' of Amsterdam, and hidden courtyards where we will tell you how stress among bats or magpies influences urban planning policies.
Cheeses, Herring, and Stories of Dutch Life
You will look at the city from a beautiful panoramic perspective, visit one of the most authoritative designer hubs in the world, have coffee in an ancient cathedral, try the famous Dutch herring and the best cookies in the world. In addition, we will teach you how to understand the immense variety of cheese. Tragic and comic stories, myths, legends, and mysteries of Old Amsterdam will be combined with narratives about modern Dutch life. You will learn how it is possible to literally create a country with your own hands, how to rent a palace for forty cents, and what secret the first Russian spies were hunting for.
