About this experience
During this journey, you will uncover different facets of Armenia. You will see the famous lake and the monastery on its shore. Then, you will move to the resort town of Dilijan and embark on an easy hike in one of the country's four national parks. Discover two abandoned medieval monasteries. And finally, pay a visit to the Molokans to learn about the traditions of this special religious community.
What to Expect
- Sevan - a high-altitude lake surrounded by mountain ranges
- Sevanavank - a monastery on a peninsula, built in the 10th century. It offers a magnificent view of the lake from the hill on which it stands.
- Dilijan National Park. The reserve is home to 102 species of trees, 35 species of mammals and reptiles, and 120 species of birds.
- Jukhtavank and Matosavank Monasteries - abandoned medieval monasteries in the forests
- Tea party with pastries in a Molokan family. The Molokans are a closed community of Christians, resettled from the Russian Empire to Armenia in the 19th century. You will have a rare opportunity to learn more about their unique traditions and customs.
Throughout the day, I will tell you about the unsuccessful draining of Lake Sevan, the construction of the mountain tunnel, the disappearance of the Molokan village, and Dilijan - the legendary city from the movie 'Mimino.' Finally, over a cup of tea from a samovar, at the Molokan's house, we will discuss the distinctive cultural tradition of immigrants from the Russian Empire.
