About this experience
Klimt is the only Austrian artist who has achieved resounding European fame. His 'The Kiss' can be found in every souvenir shop in the country on cups, plates, and notepads. But I invite you to take a broader look at Klimt's works: to understand why they overshadowed the masterpieces of the Impressionists, what is the secret of 'The Kiss', and how the maestro reimagined the image of an emancipated woman.
What to Expect
On the way to Klimt, we will explore the ceremonial interiors of Belvedere Palace, and then we will begin the acquaintance with the artist's work. In addition to 'The Kiss', we will pay attention to female portraits and a series of landscapes, as well as the late works of the 'colorful' period when Klimt abandoned gold. During 2 hours we will:
- Follow the development of the artist's creative vision: from salon painting to the obsession with gold and further to the revelation of ideas through bright, life-affirming colors.
- Discuss provenance - the stories, intrigues, twists, associated with Klimt's works. Many of them still keep dark secrets of resales during the Second World War, and some of the master's paintings saved their owners from starving to death.
- Analyze 'The Kiss' in detail: I will show what the artist changed after first showing the work in 1908. And of course, we will touch on the reasons for the stunning popularity of the painting.
- Talk about Klimt's image of women. Why did ladies from the top of bourgeois aristocracy actively commission portraits from him? And overall, how much did Klimt's work cost back then? And now? Let's discuss that too.
