What to Expect
Austrian Art from the Early 20th Century
The collection on the first floor opens with works by Gustav Klimt and his student Egon Schiele. You will learn about the stories of their lives and creativity, which are inseparably linked to the most tragic events of the 20th century. I will tell you how psychoanalysis and Freud's ideas influenced the depiction of human beings in visual arts.
Of course, you will meet her - the "Austrian Mona Lisa", the "Golden Adele". This is the famous "Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I" by Klimt. Love, jealousy, hatred, war, millions of dollars - it sounds like the plot of a thriller, but this is how you can describe the provenance of this painting.
German Expressionism
The second floor is dedicated to German expressionism: Paul Klee, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Otto Dix, Wassily Kandinsky... You will see how diverse the concepts of abstract art can be even among artists of the same movement.
After immersing yourself in the world of beauty, you can enjoy Viennese coffee and desserts at the gallery cafe. It will be a true art date!
