About this experience
Every artist we call a genius strove to create the ideal work of art. Two such masterpieces - Hieronymus Bosch's 'The Last Judgment' and Gustav Klimt's 'Beethoven Frieze' - are at the center of this art tour. You will enrich your spiritual baggage with knowledge about talented painters, examine their major works, and leave room for reflection on their 'genius'.
What to expect
'Time - his art, art - his freedom!'
Symphony No. 9 and its embodiment in painting - Secession, Klimt, meanings
A departure from academicism, from commonly accepted to boring techniques - what progressive artists, contemporaries of Gustav Klimt, aimed for when gathering in the Secession. The walls of this building, whose name translates precisely as 'segregation, separation', house the cult work of the Austrian genius 'Beethoven Frieze'. It is important to note that these are not just canvases - it is a composition 34 meters long, encircling an entire hall. You will enter a room full of wall paintings with a multitude of complex plots, and I will step by step reveal the symbolism of each one to help you understand its intention. I will also draw parallels with other monumental works by Klimt, as well as with the concept of the building itself - as the Secession is considered a masterpiece of Art Nouveau.
Renaissance enigma: Bosch and his triptych
It is hard to find a more enigmatic artist than Bosch. Nevertheless, his art not only exists, it attracts, impresses, and still gathers crowds around it. Face to face you will encounter his 'The Last Judgment' - a large altarpiece with opening panels and a kaleidoscope of intricate details. Why was this theme so attractive to the master, whom he repeatedly explored in his works, and what do these fantastic, philosophical, and moral components in the triptych mean? We will discuss all your guesses and expand your understanding of Hieronymus Bosch's mysterious and voluminous work.
Temporal connection of artists
Context, environment, and era - before delving into the analysis of an artist's work, it is necessary to put together a puzzle of three components. I will not only explain the significance of specific paintings, but also immerse you in the lives of the masters, tell you about pivotal events, curious details, and, importantly, help you find deep commonality between Bosch and Klimt, despite the 5 centuries that separate them.
