About this experience
Let's climb to the highest point of Bali this weekend! We will hike with light backpacks, stargaze from the volcano, have heartwarming conversations around a campfire. Wake up above the clouds in tents and feel like heroes on the summit of the sacred mountain, welcoming the sunrise.
What to Expect
Day 1: Rise above the clouds and warm campfire on the volcano
Meet at Changgu at 07:00 and Ubud at 08:00. Drive to the base of Mount Agung, where we will get acquainted over a cup of tea or coffee, repack our backpacks. The guide will provide safety instructions for mountain hiking and explain the peculiarities of the ascent.
Agung is a sacred place in Indonesia and the highest point in Bali. The active stratovolcano last erupted in 2019.
Today we need to ascend 1300 meters to a height just over 2300 meters above sea level to reach the campsite. We will hike with stops for about 5-6 hours constantly upwards at a comfortable pace for the whole group.
Arrive at the camp by 15:00. Feel like heroes after overcoming the first part of the ascent, treat ourselves to a hearty hiking lunch and a well-deserved rest with stunning views from all sides. Gather firewood to light a warm campfire in the evening and prepare a hot dinner. Witness the sunset on the volcano, have heartwarming conversations in a close circle, and go to bed early. Need to recharge before the final push.
Day 2: Sunrise on the highest point of Bali
Wake up before sunrise at 2:45. Warm up with hot tea and coffee and prepare for the light ascent to the highest point of Bali. Gain 800 meters in height in 3 hours with short breaks. Take the final steps and celebrate success at the top of Agung with a magical sunrise. The emotions and feelings are beyond words. We might be lucky to see the silhouette of Mount Rinjani, which proudly stands on the neighboring island.
Take photos and descend to our camp, where we will have a hearty breakfast and share our impressions with each other. Pack our belongings and leave at 11:30. Descending is easier: we will reach the base in 4 hours by 16:30. Along the way, don't forget to look around and enjoy the nature of Bali.
Full of delight and with pleasant muscle fatigue, we bid farewell and disperse. Arrive in Ubud at 17:45, in Changgu at 19:00.
