About this experience
Azhdahak offers incredibly beautiful views, remoteness from civilization, and often a complete absence of other people around. On Bukhane, we will climb almost 3000 meters and hike another 500. You will swim in the crater lake, see the red volcanic slopes, and on a clear day - also Lake Sevan, Ararat, and the entire Geghama Range.
What to expect
A panoramic view from the top
3596 meters is a decent height, but Bukhane will take you almost to 3000, so the first hike will be both the initial and final stretch. The route varies from group to group, it can be more challenging or easier. The only constant is that we end up at the summit and swim in the crater lake. In clear weather, you will see Lake Sevan, mountains Ararat, Aragats, and the entire Geghama Range. At the top, there is a wind-protected mini fortress where a simple cup of tea and sandwiches will seem like the most delicious meal in the world!
The guide will talk about mountaineering, key principles of ascent, and petroglyphs located nearby the mountain.
Mountain lunch
When you descend back to Bukhane, you will be greeted with a trekking porridge (not buckwheat!), hot chocolate, tea, and coffee. Well, you have something to treat yourself with!
Logistics
- Start at 6 am, return at 7:20 pm
- We recommend bringing warm clothing (fleece, windbreaker, pants), trekking boots or sturdy sneakers, sunscreen, sunglasses, water (1.5 L per person), and snacks (bars, snacks)
- We take children from 6 years old on the tour. But if you carry a child in a special backpack and have been in the mountains before, age does not matter.
Format specifics
- Elevation gain - 500 m, descent the same. Hiking distance - 4 km. Upon request, we can increase it to 10 km with a gain of 800 m.
- You should have some basic physical preparation: after all, this is an ascent in the mountains at a decent altitude. There is an excellent place in Yerevan to test yourself - the Cascade (a large staircase in the city center). If you can climb the Cascade and not collapse, you will definitely manage.
