About this experience
Whether it's your first time in Tbilisi or you live here, if you have ever seen this building from the Kura embankment, you have probably wanted to take a closer look and explore its interior. This excursion offers you that opportunity! We will study the interiors of the Palace of Ceremonial Celebrations and discuss its fate. We will also visit the 'palace of the new time' and stroll through a garden of rare plants.
What to Expect
The Palace of Ceremonial Celebrations was built in 1984 by the Georgian architect Victor Djorbenadze. He aimed to solve the main problem of that time: to merge traditional Georgian elements with an innovative approach of modernism. The palace was meant to be groundbreaking. But it had a different fate. What was it? Find out on the excursion!
You will have access to the closed territory. Two guides - an architectural historian and a Georgia history expert - will show you every corner of this unique architectural monument and help you understand it.
You will see:
- Main ceremonial hall
- Bride and groom's rooms
- Rooms in the rear part of the palace, renovated by the last owner (previously the rooms for marriage ceremonies, now - meeting rooms and halls in various styles)
- Recreated 'Tiflis courtyard'
You will learn:
- Why palaces for marriage ceremonies replaced registry offices
- Which styles were combined in the exterior and interior design of the Palace of Ceremonial Celebrations
- How society reacted to the Palace of Ceremonial Celebrations, and what fate befell the building
- Who is Badri Patarkatsishvili and why did he buy the palace
After that, we will visit another palace - Arcadia. We will walk in a garden with rare plants and peacocks, explore a unique private collection of paintings, and stylized interiors.
