Petra is a place of contrasts. Here epic movies are filmed and fashionable photo shoots are held, ancient scrolls and old buildings are found. You will touch the history of this unique city, admire its architecture, and learn why Petra was lost and where the people disappeared.
What to Expect
Night ferry, bus, and desert from the movies
We will pick you up from the hotel and take you to the ferry. At night, you will cross the Gulf of Aqaba, and early in the morning in Jordan, you will be greeted by a guide. You will travel by bus along the picturesque Wadi Rum desert, where blockbusters like 'The Martian', 'Dune', 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' were filmed.
On the way, the guide will tell you about Jordan and the civilizations that existed on its territory thousands of years ago. You will learn who the Nabateans were and why their descendants hid the location of the city of Petra for a long time.
Walk through the canyon and exploration of Petra
From the bus to Petra, you will walk about 1 km through the Siq canyon. In the ancient city, you will see an architectural complex carved in rocks over 2500 years ago. You will see dwellings of those times, the Treasury of El-Khazneh, the Temple of Ad-Deir, tombs, a Roman colonnade, an amphitheater for 8000 people, and a high altar. You will hear about who and how carved the city in the rock and why the locals bathed in gold.
Return through the Siq canyon can be done on foot, by carriage, or by riding a donkey or a camel (optionally at an additional cost). Upon arrival in Wadi Musa, a lavish buffet lunch of local cuisine will await you at a restaurant.
Program
- Departure from the hotel in Sharm el-Sheikh to the city of Taba (around midnight)
- Transfer to the ferry to the Jordanian city of Aqaba, border crossing
- 3-hour bus ride to the city of Wadi Musa with a stop at souvenir shops
- Walking to Petra through the Siq canyon (about 1 km)
- Sightseeing of the attractions: the El-Khazneh palace, the Ad-Deir temple, the Roman theater, royal tombs, monuments, obelisks, colonnade
- Free time, climbing Al-Habis mountain to the fortress of the crusaders era (optional)
- Lunch at a restaurant in Wadi Musa
- Return to Aqaba, free time for walks and shopping
- Return to Sharm El-Sheikh to the hotel - by 01:00 the next night
