Group Excursion to Mountain Adjara with Feast and Folk Dances (in a Mini-Group)

What to Expect

Part 1: Excursion

• From Batumi, we will head to the mountainous Adjara, to the Machakhela Gorge. You will find yourself in places where ancient Mushkovi and Halibovi tribes lived - renowned metallurgists who as early as the 6th century BC extracted iron here. You will learn how they chose a place for building a new house, what kind of wood is suitable for this, and when it is best to prepare it.
• We will visit the Mirveti Waterfall, hidden behind a beech forest. We will walk on the Queen Tamar Arch Bridge and reveal the technology of its construction. The guide will explain why bridges and fortresses were often named after her.
• We will take photos at the cascading Kariman Waterfall and discuss the history of the Machakhela gun, whose fame spread beyond the borders of Georgia. It was here that the production of flintlock guns first began.
• In the village of Zeda Chkhutuneti, we will visit a mosque that is over 200 years old. Built by Laz artisans, it is decorated with ornaments made of wood that has retained its color since the 18th century.

Part 2: Feast

After the excursion, we will visit a local resident's family where our feast will take place. You will get acquainted with national traditions and the daily life of the local population, learn how many toasts are in a Georgian feast and which ones are mandatory. You will try Adjarian authentic dishes - sinori, chirbuli, mchadi, khachapuri, as well as wine, chacha, and spring water. In the end, folk dances and initiation into true Georgians await you!
