About this experience
Khiva looks like a living Eastern fairy tale. And in the evening haze of the departing day, it becomes even more beautiful! You will stroll along the old streets along the mighty fortress walls, be impressed by the grandiose buildings - traces of the ancient Khwarezm Empire, count the carved columns of the amazing mosque. And you will also hear stories, legends, and tales about the rulers and heroes of Khiva.
What to Expect
The Citadel of Itchan Kala
The inner city of Khiva is surrounded by a powerful fortress wall. According to legend, the clay for creating Itchan Kala was brought from the same places where the Prophet Muhammad took it when building Medina. The guide will tell you about ancient legends, as well as how the citadel was built, how Khiva developed over the centuries, which celebrities visited these places, and what the city lives on in the 21st century.
The Pahlavon Mahmud Complex
You will see the mausoleum of the Khiva khans, which is considered one of the best examples of Khorezm architecture. It is named after the legendary Khivan hero, a carpenter by profession, an outstanding fighter, poet, and philosopher by calling. There is a legend that he never suffered any defeats.
The Kunya-Ark Fortress
You will visit another "city within a city" in the heart of Itchan Kala. Previously, there were winter and summer mosques, a mint, the khan's chancellery, a reception hall, and various workshops - everything the khan and his entourage needed for state service, living, and entertainment.
The Tash Hauli Palace
You will see the luxurious main palace of the rulers of Khiva. It was built on the orders of Allah Kuli Khan. At that time, Khorezm was at the peak of prosperity, so the khan spared no money to adorn his possessions.
The Islam Khodja Madrasah and Minaret
You will see the symbol of the city and the tallest minaret in Khiva. And the guide will tell you more about the architect's idea - why he built a magnificent minaret next to the smallest madrasah.
The Juma Mosque
And of course, we will not overlook the most central and unusual mosque of Khiva with 213 carved wooden columns. You will learn about the style of Khivan woodcarving, examine it up close, and be amazed at the craftsmanship.
