About this experience
Our walk is dedicated to the mysterious signs and mosaics of Barcelona, which remind locals of events from past centuries but will not tell anything to an ordinary tourist. I will tell you about the characters and legends associated with the 'secret signs' of the Gothic Quarter, teach you how to navigate through ancient frescoes and signs, and help you see Barcelona through the eyes of a true Catalan!
What to Expect
Walk around the Gothic Quarter
During the tour, you will discover the main attractions of the Gothic Quarter from an unusual perspective. We will see the oldest church in Barcelona and the majestic Cathedral. We will peek into castles with unique layouts, visit the Jewish Quarter, understand what the mosaic of the Sagrada Familia Cathedral means in a square where a cemetery is next to shopping centers. And in the ancient Roman part of Barcino, you will learn about the dark times of Roman rule and the Middle Ages.
City Stories in Signs and Details
I will help you notice interesting accents and details that ordinary tourists will overlook. You will examine ancient frescoes depicting prominent figures of Barcelona and illustrating stories from the lives of locals. You will find an inconspicuous but colorful sign on Royal Square dedicated to an unknown artist and his tragic death. And you will also learn the story of a fame hunter who turned from a shoeshiner into a world-famous illusionist!
Atmospheric Corners 'for Locals'
Despite its popularity among tourists, the Gothic Quarter lives its own life, which we will immerse ourselves in during the walk. You will see the local library, stroll through George Orwell Square, the main gathering place for Catalan youth. I will show you a quiet rooftop garden, lead you through an atmospheric street with chandeliers more reminiscent of a hotel lobby. And along the way, I will tell you about the most interesting quirks of Barcelona's architecture!
