About this experience
For many, getting to know Azerbaijan is limited to just Baku. However, there are many other cities in the country worthy of attention. One of them is Ganja. The failed capital, former Kirovabad, the homeland of the most famous national poet Nizami Ganjavi - the city has gone through so many twists of history that it definitely has something to tell. I will show you the significant places of Ganja and share its past.
What to Expect
Architectural ensemble of Sheikh Baha ad-Din
In the heart of Ganja, you will see the mosque of Shah Abbas I, built in the 17th century. Imagine how the market square with shops and centuries-old plane trees used to spread here. Look at the madrasah, the historic bathhouse - Chokak-Hamam, and the mausoleum of Javad-Khan with the tomb of the last ruler of Ganja, learn the history of this place.
Javad-Khan Street
You will pass by the Zinger brothers' house, where Zinger workshop was located until 1920. You will see monuments to poets who lived in the 11th and 12th centuries, and the former Orthodox Church of Cyril and Methodius - now a puppet theater. I will show you a unique house made of bottles. I will tell you about the poets and architects born in Ganja, about the city's names in different periods, its defenders, and traitors.
Park-sad
We will walk in the park where the last khan of the Ganja Khanate used to rest. You will see an alley of plane trees, a part of the fortress wall that once surrounded the city, and the very building where the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was proclaimed in 1918, which lasted only 2 years.
Mausoleum 'Imam-zade'
The complex is also known as the 'Blue Dome' or 'Blue Mosque' - because of the color of the main dome. It houses the tomb of Ibrahim - the son of the fifth Imam Mohammad Baqir.
