About this experience
This tour is for those who are visiting Ganja for the first time and want to see the key attractions in one day without rushing. From the 17th-century Juma Mosque to the famous Bottle House, Lake Göygöl, and Chokak Hamam, this tour covers it all. Along the way, you will learn about the city's role on the Silk Road and local traditions.
What to Expect
- Nizami Ganjavi Mausoleum, built on the poet's tomb in 1947 and reconstructed in 1991.
- Juma Mosque from the early 17th century, also known as the 'Shah Abbas Mosque' as it was commissioned by the Persian Shah Abbas I during his reign.
- Chokak Hamam - a historic bathhouse in Ganja known for its domes and unique construction material. It now houses a decorative arts center.
- Two-Story Bottle House, built with colorful stones and 48,000 bottles of different shapes and sizes.
- Shah Abbas Caravanserai from the 17th century - an architectural landmark of its time!
- Lake Göygöl, formed after a devastating earthquake near Ganja on September 30, 1139. The mountain peak of Mount Kapaz collapsed into the Achsu River gorge, creating the dam and the lake.
We will also visit the Philharmonic Hall named after Fikret Amirov, explore a church built on the site of an ancient cemetery, and if desired, participate in a tasting of local wines. Along the way, I will share insights about ancient Ganja's role on the Silk Road, the production of 'Katyushas' during World War II, gold mining, the famous plane tree chocolate, multicultural values, Nobel laureates, and 'Zingers'.
