About this experience
Embark on a journey to the town of Sirmione in northern Italy! Explore streets rich in history and cultural treasures. You will see a medieval castle, ancient frescoes, and ruins of an ancient villa. Enjoy the landscapes of Lake Garda, admire the work of (presumably) Brusasorci, and learn about the origins of the thermal spas in Sirmione.
We will drive to Sirmione by car, park the car, and take a 2-hour walk through the old town. Along our route, we will encounter the following attractions:
- Scaliger Castle - the only point of access to the historic center of the city and a rare example of lake fortifications
- Church of Santa Maria Maggiore with 15th-century frescoes and an ancient statue of Madonna
- Thermal spring FonteBoiola, whose waters brought worldwide fame to the resort
- Villa of opera diva Maria Callas, who was in love with Sirmione and referred to it as paradise on earth in her memoirs
- Roman ruins of 'Grotte di Catullo', where the family of the prominent poet of the Cicero and Caesar era Gaius Valerius Catullus resided
- Church of San Pietro in Mavino in an olive grove with a collection of architectural monuments and frescoes from the 12-14th centuries
- Church of St. Anne - a small chapel with beautiful stained glass windows and works of art
- Shore of Lake Garda, where you can admire swans and ducks and indulge in ice cream
