About this experience
During this trip, you will discover a marvelous gem from the alpine lakes of Italy, learn about the connection between Iseo and the Mona Lisa, explore the oasis of Europe's largest inhabited island, and meet the Italian rival of Champagne.
What to Expect
Medieval town of Iseo
We will meet at Rovato train station and drive to the ancient town of Iseo. Passing through the famous Franciacorta wine region amidst extensive vineyards, hills, and picturesque villages, you will learn why the region has become so popular in recent decades and what wines are produced here. Upon reaching Iseo, you will walk through the streets of the largest historical and tourist center on the lake. Explore the characteristic Capuchin monks' house-castle and the church founded in the late ancient era.
Harmony and beauty of Lake Iseo
This small lake between the provinces of Bergamo and Brescia stands out among its northern counterparts for being home to the largest and highest inhabited island in Europe. You will appreciate the enchanting landscapes of mountains, medieval towns, fruit orchards, olive groves, and vineyards. Hear fascinating stories about these places and the world-famous personalities who loved the lake. Learn about the local petroglyphs and the first Italian landmark listed by UNESCO. I will also tell you how Iseo is connected to Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa and how in 2016, 1.2 million tourists were able to walk on water in the lake's center.
The extraordinary world of Monte Isola
At the waterfront of Iseo, we will board a boat and head to the island surrounded by numerous legends and amusing stories. From a distance, you will see the highest point of Monte Isola, which gave the island its name. Discover what the local residents do and how they get around. After an inspiring walk along the coast in the ecologically clean oasis, we will stop for a coffee break or a light lunch at one of the charming establishments with picturesque views. In the summer, you can swim in the warm waters of this hospitable lake.
Franciacorta Wineries (optional)
Upon returning to Iseo, we will drive to the train station or optionally stop at one of the famous Franciacorta sparkling wine cellars - the Italian rival of Champagne. You will visit the production area, wine cellars, and, of course, taste wines accompanied by local delicacies.
