About this experience
During the trip, you will discover a wonderful gem from the necklace of pre-Alpine lakes of Italy, learn how Iseo is connected to the Mona Lisa, and which famous people loved this place. You will also take a walk through the oasis of the largest and highest inhabited island in Europe and get introduced to the Italian rival of Champagne.
What to Expect
Medieval town of Iseo
We will meet at the Rovato train station and proceed to the ancient town of Iseo by car. Passing through the famous Franciacorta wine region amidst extensive vineyards, hills, and picturesque villages, you will learn why the region has become so popular in recent decades and what wines are produced here. Upon reaching Iseo, you will stroll through the streets of the largest historical and tourist center on the lake. Explore the characteristic house-castle of the Capuchin monks and the church founded in the late ancient era.
Harmony and beauty of Lake Iseo
A small lake between the provinces of Bergamo and Brescia stands out among its northern siblings for hosting the largest and highest inhabited island in Europe. You will appreciate the enchanting landscapes of mountains, medieval towns, orchards, olive groves, and vineyards. Hear captivating stories about these places and the world-famous personalities who loved the lake. Learn about local petroglyphs and the first Italian landmark listed by UNESCO. I will also tell you how Iseo is connected to Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa and how in 2016, 1.2 million tourists were able to walk on water in the center of the lake.
Extraordinary world of Monte Isola
On the waterfront of Iseo, we will board a small boat and head to the island, surrounded by numerous legends and amusing stories. From a distance, you will see the highest point of Monte Isola, which determined the name of the island. You will learn what the locals do and how they get around. After an inspiring walk along the coast in an ecologically clean oasis, we will make a stop for a coffee break or a light lunch at one of the charming establishments with picturesque views. And during the summer period, you can take a swim in the warm waters of this hospitable lake.
Franciacorta Wineries (optional)
Upon returning to Iseo, we will take a car to the railway station or optionally stop by one of the famous Franciacorta sparkling wine producers on the way—a Italian competitor to the great Champagne. You will visit the production facilities, wine cellars, and, of course, taste the wines accompanied by local delicacies.
