About this experience
In a comfortable modern car, we will head to the beautiful Bukhara! You will see the most famous mosques and madrasas of the sacred city, the impregnable fortress Ark, and the 47-meter Kalan Minaret, like a lighthouse guiding ancient trade caravans and pilgrims. I will share the centuries-old history of Bukhara and decipher its architectural features.
What to expect
You will see the main attractions of Bukhara:
- Lyab-i-Hauz. The central square where I will show you ancient mosques, madrasas, and a reservoir that saves the desert residents from the heat.
- Magoki-Attori Mosque. You will see a medieval column-domed mosque and learn what attracts archaeologists to it.
- Trade Domes. In the 16th century, Bukhara became the capital of a khanate: bustling bazaars and artisan shops filled the city. Their trade domes have survived to this day!
- Kalan Minaret. The most recognizable and photographed place in Bukhara. Find out why on the excursion.
- Ulugbek and Abdulaziz Khan Madrasas. Twin madrasas, one of which preserves the legendary stork's nest that is over two centuries old.
- Ark Fortress. You will see the magnificent citadel that defended the city from the 4th century BC. I will share its rich history with you.
- Samani Mausoleum. We will visit the family mausoleum of the Samanid dynasty rulers and decipher its architectural features.
In addition, I will show you the Chor-Minor Madrasa, Bolo-Hauz Mosque, and Sitorai Mokhi-Khosa Palace - the summer residence of the last emir of Bukhara.
