About this experience
On the slopes of Mount Caputo, you can see the harmonious outlines of the Monreale Cathedral, built in the 12th century. You will learn about royal treasures and 'redemption money', marvel at the combination of different cultures in the architecture, and enjoy the main relic - one of the world's largest mosaic cycles. I will tell you about the monument's fate and help you immerse yourself in its spirit.
What to expect
Secret Corner
Strolling through the ancient streets, we will talk about the city, its heroes, and peculiarities. Then we will peek into the Benedictine monastery courtyard, where everything is filled with light, bright colors, and graceful ornaments. We will see the corner called 'corte' - the most charming place in the courtyard. Even Guy de Maupassant wrote: 'Let those who love monastery courtyards walk through the courtyard of this monastery, and they will forget almost all others they have ever seen... The wonderful monastery courtyard in Monreale fills the soul with such a sense of beauty that you would gladly stay there forever.'
Golden Temple
After a rest by the ancient fountain, we will head to Duomo Monreale. You will admire the richly decorated apses of the cathedral, lancet arches of different heights and colors, note the clarity of lines and the airiness of space, the solemn harmony of proportions. And, of course, study the golden mosaic covering, depicting the pages of sacred history. I will show you how modern masters create mosaics, teach you to read medieval symbols, and tell you about the key events immortalized by the masters.
