About this experience
I invite you to a tour of the oldest city in Sicily - Cefalu, which, due to its uniqueness, well-being, and the presence of a wonderful free beach, was included in the Club of the most beautiful towns of Italy. You will learn its history, see the main attractions, and immerse yourself in the spirit of antiquity and the relaxing atmosphere of a beautiful seaside resort.
What awaits you
- The main attraction of the city is the famous medieval Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Lord. It was built back in the 12th century and miraculously preserved unique Byzantine mosaics of that time. According to legend, the first stone in the construction of the cathedral was laid by Roger II, the founder and first ruler of the Kingdom of Sicily.
- Near the cathedral is the Mandralisca Museum (Museo Mandralisca), where collections of ancient coins, seashells collected from all of Sicily, and even the "Portrait of an Unknown" by Antonello da Messina are located.
- One of the most cheerful and interesting attractions in Cefalu is the medieval Arab laundry. Here, the principle of running water is wisely observed: clean water comes from taps on one side, and dirty water flows away on the other. If desired, you can participate in a real show and wash some of your things.
Organizational details
- Cefalu is located on the northern coast of Sicily, approximately 70 km from Palermo. The tour will start in the city center, which you can reach by local train or rented car.
- The ticket to the Mandralisca Museum (5 euros) is not included in the cost of the tour and is paid separately. Visiting the museum is at your discretion.
