Discover one of the best natural landmarks on the slopes of the Sierra Nevada Mountains - Sequoia Park with the world's largest tree 'General Sherman'. Along the way, you will stop at the enchanting Pyramid Lake, hear legends of the Northern Paiutes, learn about the era of the 'gold rush' and the oil history of Bakersfield, the birthplace of country music.
What to Expect
Pyramid Lake and Paiute Reservation
Our first stop is the deepest lake in California, an artificial reservoir for an operating dam. Here, in an Indian reservation where the Northern Paiutes reside, you will hear mysterious myths and legends related to the culture of the indigenous peoples of present-day California, Nevada, Oregon, and Idaho. You will also learn about the 'gold rush' that swept through these places in the 19th century and its key role in the region's subsequent economic development.
Bakersfield - the Birthplace of 'Black Gold'
Next, you will visit the city where oil was first discovered in California. Explore oil rigs, take photos with the bright city sign, and have lunch at a special establishment - a historic bar linked to the birth of the new musical genre of country. Additionally, if desired, you can visit local charming museums.
Unparalleled Sequoia Park
En route to the reserve, you will be greeted by panoramas of fields, plains, and vineyard plantations. Inside the national park, I will take you to the best observation points, show you the largest and heaviest living organism on the planet - the 'General Sherman' tree. And, of course, I will tell you about the richness of Sequoia - its unique geological formations, mighty trees, and the history of creating this natural monument with majestic forests, rivers, and cliffs.
