About this experience
In the 19th century, Sintra was one of the first cradles of romantic architecture in Europe. It attracted those who, touched by the local landscapes, dared to embellish them with stunning constructions. You will stroll through the historic center of the town, visit the two most visited local palaces, and learn many interesting facts about them.
What to Expect
National Palace of Pena
Built on a high cliff in 1840 as a summer residence for the kings. You will admire the pseudo-medieval appearance and unique eclectic style. Explore the palace's surrounding park, which harmonizes perfectly with the magical character of the building. Discover the palace's interiors - preserved as they were left by Queen Amelia, who had to abandon the house in 1910 due to the revolution.
Quinta da Regaleira
Estate reflects the cultural and philosophical interests of the main owner, Antonio Augusto de Carvalho Monteiro, and the architectural virtuosity of Luigi Manini. Their joint work led to the creation of an eclectic Renaissance ensemble with a focus on Manueline style. You will see the partially preserved interior decoration of the palace and walk through different rooms - from the grand living room to the ironing room.
