In the El Fayoum Oasis, also known as the 'earthly paradise', you will see how lifeless desert gives way to lush gardens, agricultural plantations, and ancient ruins from the time of the Ptolemies.
What to Expect
Located 80 km from Giza, El Fayoum is the largest oasis in the country. Here grain crops are grown, and the production of rose oil is established. In ancient times, these places were called the gardens of Egypt. Today there is a city with a population of 300,000 and a number of unusual attractions:
- the obelisk of Senusret I, reminiscent of the transformation of the lands of El-Fayoum into agricultural estates,
- water wheels that pump water from the Yusuf Canal with huge buckets,
- Lake Qarun, resembling a sea,
- the Fayoum Museum, where a collection of statues found in archaeological excavations in this region is kept,
- Wadi El Rayan Natural Reserve, where we will admire waterfalls and take a walk on a wooden sailboat.
