What to expect
Secrets of the Cathedral
You will walk through the Old Center of elegant Murcia and hear its history from a small Arab kingdom to the capital of the Spanish region. Visit the Cathedral, listed as one of the best cathedrals in Spain, and admire its rich decoration, exquisite chapels, altars, and variety of architectural styles. I will tell you about the features of Mediterranean Gothic, the bell tower and the main treasure of the Royal Chapel - the heart of King Alfonso X the Wise.
Best squares of Murcia
On the colorful Town Hall Square with flower beds and fountains, you will see the Episcopal Palace in the Rococo style and the neoclassical Town Hall. You will enter the inner courtyard of the Bishop's Palace and see interesting details of his life from the inside. The main street of the Old Town, Traperia, will lead us to the square of Saint Dominic, where I will show you a 15th-century monastery, an 18th-century church, and tell you the history of the luxurious residence of an Arab king. Next, you will visit the Theater Square, harmoniously combining antiquity and modernity, see the country's best music theater, and former family palaces.
Through ancient streets of the historic center
Walking through medieval streets where artisans used to live, you will find yourself in the square of Saint Catherine, where you will examine the church of Santa Catalina and the building of the former royal silk factory. You will hear the history of the Flowers Square, see a stone monument of a sardine from the 18th century from the bridge, and learn about the colorful musical festival 'Burial of the Sardine.'
Luxurious Casino Club
You will visit the Royal 'Casino' Club, created according to the English model. It has been the center of the city's cultural life since the mid-19th century. You will be impressed by its vestibule in the Moorish style with graceful arches and wall panels decorated with gypsum carvings and gilding. The club's inner courtyard is adorned with sculptures brought from the Vatican Museum. I will guide you through the luxurious halls and tell you about their rich interior decoration in Renaissance, neoclassical, and Baroque styles. Finally, we will go to the ruins of a 12th-century Arab castle on the top of Monteagudo Mountain. Here you will see a monument dedicated to the worship of the Most Holy Heart of Christ and learn why it is called 'Mursia's Protector.'
