About this experience
Almeria is a city where the sun never sets 365 days a year. Here you can still hear echoes of Al-Andalus, and directors love to shoot adventure films. I will show you the famous monuments and ancient quarters that have preserved the charm of bygone eras. We will walk along the Alley of Fame and visit museums, where we will discuss the cultural heritage of Almeria and what it lives on today.
What to expect
- Our walk will start from the central place of historical Almeria - Cathedral Square. I will tell you the story of the Cathedral of the Incarnation - a Catholic temple designed as a fortress. Through its example, we will talk about the architectural blend of styles typical for the city.
- In the historical center, we will enjoy a panoramic view of Alcazaba - one of the oldest fortresses in Spain from the Andalusian era. Venturing into the winding alleys, we will talk about their numerous underground shelters, which were used during the civil war.
- On the Alley of Fame, we will stop to see the named stars of Spanish cineastes. Did you know that Almeria has been the setting for dozens of famous movies and TV series? Among them, for example, "Terminator" and "Black Mirror."
- We will visit the Heritage Interpretation Center and the Donña Pakita Art Museum, dedicated to painting and the culture of the region. We will also see El Cable Inglés - an old sea pier for loading iron, and talk about its history.
- I will show you the most picturesque corners of the Muslim Almedina neighborhood and tell you about the Al-Andalus era and Arab rule on the Iberian Peninsula.
