About this experience
Why go to Anamur? Besides being the southernmost city of Turkey, there are two prominent attractions in its vicinity. These are the ruins of the ancient Roman city Anemurium and the well-preserved Mamure Castle. Immerse yourself in ancient history, enjoy the beauty of the local nature along the way, and have a great beach vacation – there are more than enough reasons to make the trip!
What to Expect
Mamure Castle
Established by the Romans, reconstructed by the Armenians, and given its final appearance by the Seljuks. We will climb up to the watchtower, enjoy the panoramic view of the castle, sea, and mountains from there, walk along the walls, inner corridors, imagine ourselves as defenders of the castle. The castle is surrounded by a moat where freshwater turtles live. Next to the castle is a secluded sandy beach where giant sea turtles lay their eggs.
Ancient City
We will also visit Anemurium – a city founded in the 8th century BCE, which was home to 20,000 people during its heyday. It is now a vast open-air museum by the sea. I will guide you to the places where a large number of mosaics from the Roman period have been preserved. And help you imagine what the ancient ruins of city walls, churches, baths, amphitheater, and aqueduct looked like.
