About this experience
I invite you on a journey through sunny Baku. We will admire its architecture and indulge in eating. You can expect a hearty breakfast, a walk in the Old City, lunch by the Caspian Sea coast, and a visit to the Ateshgah Temple. We will conclude such a wonderful day in a 'locals only' restaurant, where we will try dishes cooked over an open fire and share a bottle of wine.
What to expect
Hearty breakfast, lunch by the sea, dinner with the locals
Our introduction will begin with a traditional breakfast to set the mood for the day. The table will be set with scrambled eggs with tomatoes, shor (local salty cheese), olives, fresh tandoor bread, fragrant tea with jam, and much more.
For lunch, we will head to a fish restaurant on the Caspian Sea coast. Here you can try amazing kutabs (with camel meat, herbs, or pumpkin and cheese), as well as shashlik from freshly caught fish.
Dinner will take place at a non-touristy Baku restaurant. Guests will be welcomed by a huge grill - and dishes are prepared right over an open fire. On the way, we will stop at a shop to buy a bottle of local wine.
The very best in Baku
Not all day at the table! :) In between meals, I suggest exploring the city and its surroundings.
- We will greet the Old City: ancient mosques, caravanserais, the Maiden Tower, and the Palace of the Shirvanshahs. Plus, the shops of local traders, the workshop of the famous artist Ali Shamsi, and the streets where the movie 'Diamond Arm' was filmed. It will be authentic!
- We will see a genuine creation of nature - the fire that has been burning on its own for centuries. At the Ateshgah Temple, followers of Zoroastrianism 'imprisoned' fire in stone. I will tell you about this ancient religion and its interesting traditions.
- We will ascend to the observation platform in Nagorny Park - here you will admire the luxurious city panorama and take some great pictures.
Baku Market
And of course, I will show you the Baku Market - a paradise for food lovers! A place where you can find fresh fruits and vegetables, honey, dried fruits, delicious Azerbaijani cheese, and local tea at any time of the year. I will reveal where the best fish caviar in Baku is sold. And if you decide to make a purchase, I will gladly help you negotiate and get a good discount.
