About this experience
Khinalug is the highest, most remote, and isolated village in Azerbaijan and one of the highest in the Caucasus. It is known for pilgrimage sites of fire-worshippers, alpine meadows, caves, and archaeological monuments. On the way to the village, we will also visit Mount Beshbarmag with a magical stone, one of the most famous settlements of mountain Jews, and a forest park with cozy cafes.
What to Expect
Beshbarmag (Five Finger Mountain)
The rocky massif called Beshbarmag is named after the shape of its stone peak resembling a hand with five fingers. The mountain holds many secrets, myths, and legends, and I will tell you about them. I will also show you where the magical stone is located, which, according to beliefs, heals infertility.
Guba
Here lies one of the most famous settlements of mountain Jews – Krasnaya Sloboda. Guba is also famous for local sweets (pahlava is one of them), juicy apples, and handmade ornamental carpets.
Gyachryash Forest
This is a dense and shady forest park where you can hide from the summer heat. There are many restaurants serving national cuisine dishes on the territory. If you wish, we can visit one of them.
Village of Khinalug
Located in a hard-to-reach place in the southwest of the Guba district on the slope of Mount Kyzylkaya. Here are places of pilgrimage of fire-worshippers dating back to the Middle Ages, caves, and numerous unstudied archaeological monuments. Subalpine and alpine meadows occupy most of the territory – we will definitely stroll through them. On the way, I will tell you the history of these places.
