About this experience
The capital of Tuscany was glorified by geniuses who created immortal masterpieces and greatly influenced world culture. But I suggest taking a little break from studying the great works and looking at Florence not as a city of art, but as a city of people, where they loved, suffered, conspired, and killed. Famous names and landmarks will reveal themselves to you in a new light.
What to expect
I will tell you touching love stories of Florentines and stories of terrifying crimes investigated in the capital of Tuscany. During the walk, we will immerse ourselves in both the old and modern Florence.
- Near the Duomo - the main cathedral of the city - you will hear about the Pazzi conspiracy, committed here in 1478. And you will learn about the incredible event that happened here just over a century later.
- In the medieval Dante quarter, you will discover the actual meeting place of the great poet and his muse Beatrice. Next to it, you will see the former Florentine prison and the place where executions took place.
- I will tell you about the local Robin Hood and the criminal situation in modern Florence.
- There will also be a story about the Florentine Romeos and Juliets - how their ending differed from Shakespeare's tragedy, we will discuss when we meet.
- We will approach the Medici family burial site, where we will talk about a serious study from 2004. The 'Medici Project' led to a reconsideration of some notions about the city rulers. For example, the Grand Duke of Tuscany was cleared of the stigma of fratricide.
- You will also learn about the famous diamond 'Florentine', owned by the Medici family, and its theft.
- We will talk about the 'Florentine sin' and the heart secrets of Michelangelo, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci.
- And we will not overlook love for money - I will show you where the brothels were located and the place where Giacomo Casanova lived.
