About this experience
For a few hours you will find yourself in the Middle Ages and learn how people lived in this turbulent time: how their dwellings were arranged, what they ate, where they slept, and how they poured boiling oil on the heads of their enemies. And in the Davanzati Palace, you will get acquainted with the life of the wealthy Florentines of the 14th century.
What to Expect
Santa Maria del Fiore and Palazzo Vecchio
As you examine the legendary Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, you will learn why a bull's head adorns its facade. You will also uncover the details of the Pazzi conspiracy, which ended with the murder of one of the Medicis during a church service. In the Palazzo Vecchio, you will see an ancient map of Florence and understand how the city was arranged in the past.
Geniuses of the Middle Ages
The Middle Ages were not only about the inquisition, incessant wars, and epidemics. It was also an era of great names: Giotto, Dante, Donatello. As you stroll through the ancient winding alleys, you will see where Dante lived and visit the church where his beautiful muse Beatrice is buried. You will also learn why he was exiled from Florence.
Medieval Traditions and Customs
One popular saying from the Middle Ages goes: 'Good woman, bad woman, she must taste the stick.' I will tell you about the daily life and family life in Florence at that time: at what age people started families, how they raised children, and how they spent their leisure time.
Palazzo Davanzati
In the finale, you will visit the museum of a Florentine home from the 14th century and get acquainted with the life of a wealthy family of that time: how the toilets, kitchens, and halls were arranged, where the local aristocrats received guests, what clothes and shoes they wore, and how the rooms were heated.
