Touching the past
Strolling through the narrow streets of the Old Town, you will see Venetian houses and monuments that have survived since Turkish times. Furthermore, you will visit a workshop with wonderful wooden creations, dedicate to the Mother of God Mitropoli Cathedral, and learn why the islanders place small 'tamata' tablets by the miraculous icon. Besides, at the Rimondi fountain, you will hear an ancient legend about the lovers!
History and Legends of Rethymno
In the Old Port, I will tell you why the Venetians wanted to destroy it and how it miraculously managed to survive. You will also see Rethymno's main symbol — the Fortezza fortress — and enjoy the melodies coming from Nerantze Mosque. Our journey will end at the Square of the Four Martyrs, where you will examine the church and the monument to the monk Kostas — the man who changed the island's history with a single shot from a rifle.
