About this experience
In a group of up to 8 people, you will explore the west of the island. You will learn about the secrets of Melidoni Cave and its artifacts that are several thousand years old! Lake Kournas will amaze you with its cleanliness and the color of its water - and its cute inhabitants. In the picturesque Rethymno, you will be impressed by the Venetian architecture, and in the cozy village of Margarites, you will try your hand at pottery.
What to Expect
Melidoni Cave
Ancient history and mythology intertwine in Melidoni Cave. For thousands of years, it has remained a sacred place - we will explore its beautifully decorated halls, discuss the purpose of the cave, and the artifacts found in it, dating back to 3650-2900 BC.
Pottery Art in Margarites Village
Next, we will visit the village of Margarites - with its winding streets and well-preserved Venetian houses. Here, you can try one of Crete's traditional crafts - pottery, and make, for example, a small pot on the pottery wheel. Or simply enjoy the village's atmosphere and observe its tranquil way of life over a cup of aromatic coffee.
Kournas: Turtle Haven
This freshwater lake is a wonder of our island! You will be impressed by the color of its water, have the opportunity to swim or rent a pedal boat - accompanied by the local residents, turtles. Here we will also have a break for lunch: the wonderful view of the lake will complement your gastronomic experience.
Romantic Rethymno
And finally, you will be treated to one of the most picturesque resorts in Crete - the town of Rethymno. Its Old Town is like an open-air museum: elegant architecture of churches and houses, exquisite fountains, and mosques from the Ottoman period will enchant you as you stroll through the town.
Organizational Details
- Your tour will be guided by one of our agency's guides.
- The tour takes place on a minibus. Transfers between locations vary from 20 to 50 minutes. The walking part includes a stroll through the city of Rethymno.
- Additional expenses: entrance to the cave (3 euros per person), lunch at a tavern (10-20 euros per person), pedal boat rental (10 euros for four people, optional).
