You will see the palaces and mausoleums of ancient rulers, merchant family homes reminiscent of the traditions of Tsarist Russia. Explore the ornate mosques, appreciate the well-kept streets, and learn about local traditions and culture.
What to Expect
Khudoyar Khan Palace
In its time, over 300 craftsmen from all over the Kokand Khanate were invited to build the palace. Today, its walls house a local history museum that preserves only fragments of the great events from the Khan's life. I will share some of them with you. I will also reveal who looted the palace and how some items ended up in the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.
New Quarters
This part of the city emerged after the inclusion of the Kokand Khanate into the Russian Empire. Here you will see how Kokand's architectural appearance distinguishes it from other cities in Central Asia.
Jami Complex
You will explore the terrace of the summer mosque and its 99 wooden columns supporting the canopy. Meanwhile, I will share the secrets of traditional Islamic paintings that adorn the ceiling.
Narbutabek Medrese
During the visit to the architectural complex consisting of a mosque, medrese, and cemetery, you will learn why Kokand was destined to be an important cultural center. Explore the timeline of major state reforms and trace the fates of local rulers.
Organizational Details
- The tour can be conducted in a walking format with occasional transportation. The rental fee for a car is an extra $40 for the whole day, while the minivan price is available upon request.
- Entrance tickets to some attractions are purchased on-site: 25,000 sum (200 rubles) per person.
