Faces of Old Town: mascarons and facades in Sololaki (group tour)
About this experience
During a walk in the Old Town, you will admire little-known facades decorated with expressive mascarons. You will uncover the secrets of these characters and learn about their role in Tbilisi's culture. Understand the birth of historical romanticism in Georgian architecture and discover how architects of the early 20th century created the unforgettable decadent style.
What to expect
- Teimurazyan's revenue house. Built by one of the most famous Tbilisi architects, Mikhail Ogandjanov.
- Cornelius Tatishchev's house. We will help you understand what a parade room is. Or is it a grand entrance?
- Evelina Ter-Akopova's house. You will examine this specimen of beaux-arts architectural style - also known as historicism.
- Tbilisi Mutual Credit Society - again the work of Ogandjanov. This is one of the most innovative buildings of its time.
- Seilans' house. Admire the magnificent paintings in its vestibule.
And these are far from all the remarkable buildings in the atmospheric Sololaki district!
