What to expect
Etiquette in the past and present
Walking along the main street of the old Etiquette with a church and a market, you will come across stores of fashionable clothing, shoes, designer jewelry, colorful food and flower shops, cozy pastry shops, Italian pizzerias, and French brasseries. I will tell you about the history of Etiquette, when it was a village, about the first country houses and villas of wealthy Parisians. Along the central shopping street, you will see 'traces of former luxury' - mansions of princes and aristocrats who lived under the old regime. The street names will lead to conversations about the 19th century and the representatives of the creative elite who gathered here. And the racecourse, world-famous tennis courts (Roland Garros), and the famous stadium (Parc des Princes) will allow you to touch on the current sports theme in Etiquette.
Architectural appearance of the district
You will learn how, entering Paris, the district acquired new types of residential buildings. Examining various facades, you will get acquainted with the architectural styles that dominated the development of Paris from the late 19th to the mid-20th century. We will talk about famous architects who lived and worked in Etiquette - Le Corbusier and Mallet-Stevens (modernism, constructivism), Hector Guimard (Art Nouveau), Jean Bouché, Henri Sauvage (Art Deco), Paul Gode (Art Nouveau), Paul Abraham and Paul Sinoir (Cubism).
Etiquette and Russian emigrants
This aspect of the district is reminded by memorial plaques on the buildings. Some of them you will see during the walk. We will talk about Prince Yusupov and his wife, Princess of Imperial blood Irina, the writers Ivan Bunin and Yevgeny Zamyatin, who rented apartments here, as well as the Russian collector Sergei Shchukin. I will show you the Russian grocery store and the Orthodox church. And you will also walk in the wonderful Park of Poets, Lev Tolstoy Park, or along the alleys of the Bois de Boulogne. The tour will end with a cup of coffee in a cozy local cafe.
I have no doubt that you will leave with the confidence that you have acquainted yourself with the most wonderful district of Paris!
