About this experience
Lisbon with its gentle Mediterranean climate seems to be created for fans of garden and park art. This walk will take you to picturesque, evergreen, peaceful, and photogenic gardens of Lisbon. We will stroll through the 'Cold Greenhouse', the Amoreiras and Estrela gardens, and along the way we will talk about the history and modern life of the Portuguese capital.
What to Expect
'Cold Greenhouse': tropical Lisbon
First, we will head to a real exotic oasis, which is located in the city center on the site of a former quarry. In the 'Cold Greenhouse', you will encounter rare plants, take atmospheric photos, find grottoes, waterfalls, and winding paths among lush tropical greenery. But do not be surprised if you see a guard rooster: I will tell you why these birds protect the peace of plants and who takes care of them.
Amoreiras Garden: everyday Lisbon
Under the arches of the famous aqueduct, built by the Romans, we will find the small Amoreiras park. Here you will enjoy the sunny and cozy everyday life of Lisbon. We will discuss the role of numerous kiosks in city life, why a small chapel is needed in one of the aqueduct columns, and admire the blooming trees and flower beds.
Estrela Garden: luxurious Lisbon
The finishing touch of the Lisbon landscape will be Estrela - a masterpiece of English-style landscape design built in the mid-19th century. Ducks and peacocks stroll along the garden paths, and Japanese koi swim in the ponds. You will learn about the history of the park, admire the sculptures and rich flora of the Old and New Worlds: in the expanses of Estrela, we will find jacarandas, ginkgos, monkey puzzle trees, dragon trees, and Lebanese cedars.
