About this experience
Lisbon intoxicates and captivates, takes you under its wing, and shares the magical energy of the ocean. On this tour, you will be enchanted by the mysterious and amazingly contrasting districts of Lisbon and begin to better understand the Portuguese people. You will visit Alfama and learn why you can toss salt from window to window here instead of walking to your neighbor's. You will walk through the Augusta Arch and see the Kaiš-dash-Kolunash pier, which welcomed kings and great explorers. And, of course, you will stroll through the luxurious Chiado district, where the famous 'pasteis de nata' are sold in an old pastry shop.
What to expect
Baixa: Feel the grandeur of Portugal
You will find yourself in Baixa, which, like a phoenix, rose from the ashes after the earthquake. I will tell you how the most popular tourist district was built on ruins, and chaotic streets turned into straight, wide, and strictly planned ones. It is here that you will feel all the grandeur of Portugal: you will pass through the magnificent Augusta Arch, see the Kaiš-dash-Kolunash pier, which served as a ceremonial landing stage for receiving kings, and encounter the yellow tram.
Alfama: Learn about the history of medieval Lisbon
Leaving Baixa, you will move to Alfama - the heart of Lisbon. Labyrinths of narrow streets, colorful tiles on the facades of houses, sounds of fado from open windows. Here you will understand why Alfama is called a place where time has stopped and feel its special rhythm: you will observe how Lisbonites come out to their balconies in the morning for coffee, take down dry laundry, chat with neighbors from window to window. And then you will walk past Saint George's Castle and admire the beautiful city view.
Chiado: Wander through the 'gleaming' district
Strolling leisurely, you will ascend to the Chiado district. Bohemian and rich, this district is called the crooked mirror of Alfama - I will share why the locals hold such an opinion and help you understand the history of this 'gleaming' district. The facts and legends of Chiado will come together to form a complete picture when you feel part of its life: you will walk the streets, peek into the world's oldest bookstore and the smallest glove shop. And, of course, you will find out where to taste the most delicious 'pasteis de nata' - legendary baskets with custard!
