About this experience
The ceremonial and gloomy side of Edinburgh. The elevated and bloody history of its creation. Cruel tyranny and unparalleled humanism. The greatest discoveries and high-profile crimes. Behind all this are people. Who are they - well-wishers or tyrants? You will learn about this by visiting the Old Town of the Scottish capital and visiting places where time literally stood still.
What to expect
A blend of Gothic and otherworldly nature in one bottle
Our path will show the Scottish capital from all sides: we will bypass the Old Town and the modern part, climb to points with fantastic panoramas and visit places with a star, which you will only learn about on a walk. The route will cover:
- Grassmarket - the market square, the southern border of the Old Town, where executions were held in the Middle Ages.
- Greyfriars Cemetery - the necropolis of famous people and the site of important historical events.
- George IV Bridge, passing at the level of about the fourth floor of residential buildings, from where you can appreciate Edinburgh's unusual multi-level landscape.
- The Elephant House, famous for its famous visitor - J.K. Rowling. It was here that she worked on her first book about Harry Potter.
- Castle Rock - a precipitous cliff on which Edinburgh Castle stands, where witches were burned in the Middle Ages, and now the famous parade of military bands takes place.
- Royal Mile - the heart of the medieval city, the street from which Edinburgh began, with many attractions associated with ancient history.
- Palace of Holyroodhouse - the Scottish residence of the reigning queen and the place where the tragic story of Mary Stuart began.
- Calton Hill - one of Edinburgh's seven frozen volcanoes, on which are monuments related to the Napoleonic Wars, an old observatory, a time ball.
- St. Andrew Square, the place from which the construction of the magnificent New Town in the Georgian style began at the end of the 18th century.
Personalities in Edinburgh's history
