Immerse yourself in the ancient and modern history of one of the oldest states in the world! You will visit the churches and temples of Echmiadzin - the spiritual center of the Armenian people. Explore the museum of Christian relics where church treasures are kept. And take a stroll in the picturesque park-restaurant where several cultures harmoniously complement each other.
What to expect
Temples and churches
- Zvartnots Temple from the 7th century - a ruined temple that will amaze you with its beauty. It was once compared to the Hagia Sophia in Constantinople!
- Next, you will explore St. Ripsime Church from the 7th century. A beautiful legend is associated with the martyr Ripsime! The church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Then visit the Cathedral of St. Echmiadzin from 303 AD, the world's first Christian church, protected by UNESCO. You will only see it from the outside but hear a lot of interesting information.
- Next stop is the Monastery of St. Gayane from the 7th century - an example of a domed basilica church. The monastery is also under the protection of UNESCO.
- Another point of interest is the Shoghakat Church, built in 1694 by Prince Aghamal Sorotetsi.
Museums and park
- Manukyan Museum-Treasury. Here you can find crosses, clothing, and other church accessories of historical and artistic value.
- Gastronomic house-museum of culture and life. Besides the exhibits, there are master classes available - you can try pottery, baking lavash, or painting if you wish. You can also relax in a cozy café here.
- Park-restaurant - a multicultural and the most picturesque location in Echmiadzin. Here you can relax and, if hungry, try dishes from different cuisines.
