What to Expect
Armenia and Christianity
I will share about the religious life of the country and show you the astonishing ancient temples. The excursion includes:
- Echmiadzin Cathedral - the world's first Christian cathedral and the spiritual center of all Armenians. You will hear the related facts and legends. You will also see the main relics of the cathedral: a piece of Noah's Ark and the arrow that pierced Jesus.
❗Echmiadzin Cathedral is under restoration; only an external view is included in the program.
- Church of Saint Hripsime - you will uncover the tragic story of the early Christian martyr Hripsime, who fled from the Roman Empire and was killed in Armenia. Additionally, you will decode the features of ancient Armenian architecture.
- Church of Saint Gayane - a functioning church from the 7th century. You will learn about the life and death of Saint Gayane, the Roman maidens who converted to Christianity, and the famous individuals buried in the local necropolis.
