About this experience
Right next to the bustling Prague Castle lies the quiet district of New World. Its streets and houses hold many stories - during the tour, you will get acquainted with them and be transported back to the Middle Ages. In the Church of Our Lady Victorious, you will see the Infant Jesus of Prague, a wax figure of the baby Jesus. The garments of this holy shrine are adorned with great skill - as you will see in the museum. Our walk will end on Kampa Island: a beautiful park, houses cascading into the water, and the Lover's Bridge create a romantic and somewhat mysterious atmosphere here.
What to Expect
Back to the Middle Ages
Not many people realize what an unusual place is just a stone's throw away from the tourist trails. New World, like the Parisian Montmartre, has preserved the charm of antiquity. Its winding streets and small houses date back to the 14th century. The area was inhabited by the poor, but the ambitions of the residents were high: almost all buildings have 'golden' house signs. How many amazing legends are hidden in tiny courtyards, old fountains, and wells! I will tell you about the history of this place and its residents, including the famous astronomer Tycho Brahe and mathematician Johannes Kepler.
See the Famous Catholic Shrine
Ahead is the Castle Square surrounded by magnificent Renaissance and Baroque palaces. You will hear the history of Prague Castle - the former residence of kings - and visit St. Vitus Cathedral. We will walk along Nerudova Street, where the monarch paraded for their coronation. Our path leads past the mystical house where the alchemist Edward Kelley lived - to the Church of Our Lady Victorious. Here is the only wax sculpture of the baby Jesus in the world. You will learn how this figure of the Infant Jesus of Prague appeared in Prague and visit the museum, where its charming dresses, adorned with precious stones and embellished with gold, are presented.
To the Mysterious Island
The cozy Kampa Island is considered one of the most romantic places in Prague. Like in Venice, its houses descend directly into the water, and it is separated from the mainland by the narrow Devil's Stream, which I will tell you the legends associated with this name. A picturesque park and a miniature square await you on this island. We will stroll through the 'military town' of the Knights of the Maltese Order to the John Lennon Wall and the Lover's Bridge. Here you will see the water mill wheel and learn why the gloomy Kabourek settled nearby.
