About this experience
Florence cannot be imagined and understood without mentioning Dante Alighieri. For the Florentines, he was a poet, a prophet, a politician, a genius, almost a saint. And believe me, the whole city is literally permeated with him and his 'Divine Comedy', the rebellious spirit still hovers among the ancient buildings. I will help you feel the poet's presence on the narrow streets, tell you about the twists and turns of his life, creativity, and take a look at Florence through the poet's eyes.
What to expect
Dante Alighieri's poem 'Divine Comedy' is the most important work for Italians, a compulsory cultural minimum, and of course, the bedside book of every Florentine.
In the Middle Ages and the Renaissance era, specially selected erudites publicly commented on every stanza of the poem, and in many churches, vivid images of Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven are presented exactly as Dante describes them. I will tell you about the unique influence of the poet on the life of the city, about his tragic fate as an exile and a prophet, and also about the most romantic love story for the beautiful Beatrice.
During the walk, you will see medieval Florence, which has hardly changed since the famous poet was born and lived here for the first half of his life. Alongside Dante, you will visit the places dear to him and, if you look closely at the walls of Florentine houses and churches, you can 'descend' into Hell, 'ascend' through Purgatory, and 'see' Paradise with the poet, learn a lot about Florence of that era, and understand how relevant his poem is today.
