About this experience
Join me on a tour of the Medina - the medieval center of Cordova. For centuries, three religions peacefully coexisted here: Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. Walking through the ancient winding streets, you will see Catholic churches, admire the legendary Great Mosque, and visit a synagogue. I will tell you about the city's development, its scientific and cultural achievements.
What to Expect
Medina and Great Mosque
The tour will start on the bank of the Guadalquivir River, where I will show you the Roman Bridge and the Calahorra Tower. Then through the main gates of the medieval city, we will enter the Medina and see the famous Great Mosque. I will talk about the urban planning features of Islamic architecture, the contribution of Muslims to the development of Cordova, and the Christians who converted their religion.
Jewish Quarter
We will walk through the narrow streets of the Jewish Quarter. You will see a medieval synagogue and peek into a typical Cordovan courtyard. I will reveal the story of a cat that ran between Jews and Christians in the late 14th century. Why the Church of St. Bartholomew was built, how the Jews were expelled from the Iberian Peninsula, and where the tribunal of the Cordovan Inquisition was located.
