About this experience
This tour will take you to the foot of the statue of Jesus on Mount Tibidabo, from where the splendid Barcelona will spread out before you. You will see the symbols of the city from the Sagrada Familia to Montjuic mountain, hear the history of the Catalan capital's heyday, and understand why a church coexists with an amusement park on Tibidabo.
What to Expect
Breathtaking views and stories of Barcelona
We will climb to the bronze footsteps of the statue of Jesus - the highest point in Barcelona. You will see how the square grid of city blocks extends towards the sea, and will observe the landmarks of the Catalan capital: the spires of the Sagrada Familia cathedral, the Agbar Tower, the Gothic Cathedral, the towering figure of Columbus, and Montjuic mountain. Accompanying the mesmerizing views will be a narrative about the history of Barcelona - from the city's inception to the present day. You will learn why in the late 19th century the Catalan capital flourished, began to expand and develop, get acquainted with the key local architects, and hear the story of the ingenious Gaudi, who went from being born into a poor artisan family to becoming the leading architect of Barcelona.
The battle for the summit of Tibidabo
We will not overlook the mountain itself: you will learn how at the beginning of the 20th century preachers and bourgeois gamblers fought for Tibidabo, planning to build the largest casino in Europe here. You will even see traces of this battle: on the mountain, attractions still coexist with the Temple of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and a bright carousel spins at the church's staircase. And I will also tell you how the famous priest Don Bosco appeared on Tibidabo and why in the late 19th century Barcelona began to celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
